Moya Brennan on new Ashley Davis album!
Ashley Davis, who we have posted about almost a year ago, has just released her new album ‘Down By The Sea’, recorded in the home of Moya Brennan. Moya features throughout the album on vocals, as do Cathy Jordan (fun duet) from Dervish and Paddy Moloney from The Chieftains, AND Joanie Madden from Cherish The Ladies on some tracks! You can order the album through cdBaby. Check out Ashley’s MySpace and website! You can listen to a sample below.
The album has two traditional songs in Irish Gaelic (Gaeilge), one in Manx and two traditional Irish songs in English. The rest are new songs. The album comes with a 16 page color booklet with lyrics and stories about each piece. Moya mentored Ashley’s début album, ‘Closer To You’, which was produced by Fionán de Barra, a member of the Moya Brennan band.
Sample 01: This I Do – favourite track!

Sample 02: Doire Cholm Cille – (Irish name for ‘Derry’, a city/county in the north of Ireland, literally meaning ‘St. Colmcille’s Oak Grove’), Moya and Ashley’s backing vocals are so gentle, and Davis’ vocals are very strong. Stunning contrast to this song, Arcanadh recorded (and wrote?) it too in 2006 for their ‘Turning of a Day’ album.
