Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh début album

Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh
Okay, so she’s not Clannad, Moya or Enya, but Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh (Altan’s singer) is just as inspirational, just as friendly and just as influencial in Irish music so I thought I’d post a blog about her upcoming limited edition solo album, entitled ‘Imeall’ (Gaeilge for ‘Edge’ or ‘Threshold’). It is a very personal album for Mairéad.
You can listen to samples here – ‘Mo Níon Ó’ is gorgeous, it’s a tear-jerker of a song. There are also some amazing trad songs like ‘Gardaí an Rí’ and ‘Dobbin’s Flowery Vale’ in memory of her late husband, Belfast’s Frankie Kennedy. The album will be limited to a TINY number worldwide although will be available to download, but a physical copy is well worth it. The album will be launched on February 12th, more information over at Mairéad’s website and MySpace page.
Mairéad sang with Moya & Clannad at the Leo’s Tavern anniversary and will perform two concerts with Moya, Maighréad & Tríona Uí Dhomhnaill in Dublin at the end of this month. More info on those in our tour page and news archives.
