Ciarán Ó Cofaigh
Bláthnaid Ni Chofaigh, a good friend of Moya’s and presenter of Ireland’s most-watched daytime show, ‘The Afternoon Show’ paid her last respects recently to father, Ciarán. Ciarán brought the family to Rath Cairn, a new Gaeltacht created by Irish President Eamonn de Valera. Ó Cofaigh was an activist for the Irish language and held posts within governmental departments including the Dept. of Environment. His work to promote Gaeilge in Ireland was very important, along with the Ó Domhnaill family and other families to moved from Donegal, Galway and Cork to the then-new Rath Cairn Gaeltacht. Blathnaid, one of Ireland’s most important promoters of the language within the media told, a few months back, of her fathers illness on Saturday Night With Miriam. Ó Cofaigh will be sorely missed by Ireland’s Gaeltacht communities, his friends and family: wife Nan and children Bláthnaid, Ciarán, Máire, Siobhán and Bríd. Go ndéana Dia trócaire air.
