A very special artist showcase post: We’ve all heard of Julie Fowlis, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh and undoubtedly the bands Éamon Doorley and Ross Martin belong to (Danu, Cliar among many others). Well, the four have come together to create a new album entitled ‘Dual’. Muireann, a native Gaeilge speaker and Julie, a native Gàidhlig speaker are very good friends. The album, ‘Dual’ is a word which is the same in both Gaelic languages, meaning “interlace, twine or braid” and can also mean “inheritance”. The album looks at the strong and ancient links and similarities between the music and song of Gaelic Ireland and Scotland, plus of course the differences that have developed over the years. For a preview track, head over to Julie Fowlis’ MySpace page. Julie and Muireann are superstars of folk music and have, very quickly, become renowned vocalists and multi-instrumentalists. This album, if anything like ‘Cuilidh’ or ‘Fáinne an Lae’, is going to be MASSIVE. Oh, and while you’re at Julie’s page, check out ‘Lon Dubh’, her version of a Beatles’ song!
